Voice of the Child

The Voice of the Child Advisory Group (VOCAG) is currently under review. Proposals to engage children, young people and families in the work of the 0-25 Advisory Board are currently being considered and this page will be updated accordingly.

The Voice of the Child Advisory Group (VOCAG) will ensure children and young people effectively participate in the work of Children and Young People's Trust, Salford Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) and member agencies to inform learning and drive service improvement. In Salford we want children and young people to:

  • Be involved in designing services of the future
  • Contribute to and benefit from involvement in their local communities
  • Feel that they are being heard and valued
  • Be able to make a difference

We want to children and young people to influence our decisions. There is evidence that everyone benefits when we do this. Examples include:

  • A group of young people with disabilities influenced the redesign of services affecting their education.
  • Young people worked with the Police to design emoji cards which will be used by officers when engaging with younger children.
  • Salford Youth Council has campaigned with bus companies and politicians over their concerns about transport.

The group meets on a bi-monthly basis at The Deans Youth Centre and young people from various groups including Salford Youth Council, Fight for Change Council, Salford Teenage to Adult Group (TAG) and the Young Carers Board attend.

The group is open to all young people who live in Salford and new members are always welcome. Please contact Clare Hopton at cyptrust@salford.gov.uk if you would like further information on how you or young people you are working with can get involved.
