Neighbourhood management

What is neighbourhood management?

Salford is divided into eight neighbourhoods, each with its own neighbourhood management team  who look after the interests of their local area. They have an in-depth understanding of local issues and work with local people to improve and develop their neighbourhood.

How does neighbourhood management work?

Each neighbourhood manager works with Greater Manchester Police, Salford Primary Care Trust, the youth service, various Salford City Council departments and community and voluntary groups. Each neighbourhood management area has a number of task groups which work on the priorities and issues agreed by the community committee.

What is a community committee?

Each area has a community committee that handles an annual budget from Salford City Council. The committees meet regularly to discuss issues and plan actions that affect the local area. Each year they develop a community action plan (CAP). The CAPs focus on local issues such as resources for young people and the elderly, tackling crime in the area, environmental improvements and road safety and improving health and well being.
