Community empowerment task group
The community empowerment project is an important piece of work currently being undertaken by the partnership. This work is managed by the community empowerment officer, whose work is overseen in turn by a task group.
Project components
At their first meeting, the task group agreed a project plan for this work which incorporates four areas of activity:
- Baseline research
To provide understanding on the demographic profile and support mechanisms available for communities of identity across the city
- Consultation with partner agencies
To identify the level of need for engagement activities with the various community of identity forums/networks
- Supporting the community of identity forums and networks
This includes financial support for the five forums established by Salford Community Network (the Black and Minority Ethnic Forum, the Disability Forum, the Faith Forum and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Forum), plus inclusion of children and younger people, older people and women
- Review of systems and structures
To identify sustainable methods of coordinating engagement activities between communities of identity, community committees and other structures within the city.
