Seldom Heard 2016

On Thursday 20 October 2016, over fifty young people from years 6 and 7 came together to take part in this years Seldom Heard Event. The schools involved included Buile Hill, The Albion High, Harrop Fold, Irlam and Cadishead College, Moorfield, Lewis Street and St Paul's Peel. The event allowed the young people to express their views on the city and their place in it.

The morning activities consisted of various ice breaker exercises followed by group work to collate ideas and prepare a presentation. The school groups were facilitated by members of the Young Carers Board and Salford Youth Council.  Leaders from the City Council including the City Mayor and the Lead Member for Children and Young People, the police and the voluntary sector then joined the young people for lunch. The session finished with the presentations and the city leaders each made a pledge on a specific issue that they will commit to working on over the next 12 months.

The event was hosted by Salford City College at their Eccles Centre and supported by the Children and Young People's Trust. For more information visit the Young Carers website or contact cyptrust@salford.gov.uk.
