Making the Vision Real

Salford Strategic Partnership launched a new Community Plan, Making the Vision Real, in December 2005. The Plan sets out a clear vision for the city over the next ten years, and is about everybody working together to achieve this vision.

Vision statement

In 2016, Salford will be a beautiful and welcoming city, driven by energetic and engaged communities of highly-skilled, healthy and motivated citizens, who have built a diverse an prosperous culture and economy which encourages and recognises the contribution of everyone, for everyone.

Seven themes

The Community Plan is structured around seven themes, or priority areas, which also reflect the priorities expressed by local people in their community action plans.

A healthy city

A safe city

A learning and creative city

A city where children and young people are valued

An inclusive city

An economically prosperous city

A city that's good to live in

These themes link to key strategies of both the council and key partners, and reflect regional, sub-regional and national priorities.

Strategic imperatives

The plan also contains seven 'strategic imperatives', or issues that must be addressed in order for the city to progress.

These imperatives are challenging, but we believe that by working together we can achieve them:

Imperative 1 Improving secondary school attainment

Imperative 2 Re-skilling the adult population

Imperative 3 Reducing polarisation and inequalities

Imperative 4 Raising aspirations

Imperative 5 Increasing community engagement

Imperative 6 Attracting newcomers

Imperative 7 Improving environmental sustainability
