SPOTLIGHTING
Salford under the SPOTLIGHT!
SPOTLIGHT is a new way to help public services and communities in Salford to deliver together on key issues for the city's people, families and communities - issues like crime, unemployment and low skills that can leave people and places locked into a cycle of disadvantage and low aspiration which impact in many ways and often exist over generations.
Why do we need SPOTLIGHT?
Salford is changing rapidly and the city's future looks bright. We are quite clear that regeneration is not all about buildings. We are determined to bring about a similar transformation in the prospects of our people. We need a new way of tackling the city's issues together and as a matter of urgency.
Funding a few 'extra' projects will not deliver the scale of transformation we need. SPOTLIGHT has been designed as a new mainstream approach to community regeneration - to enable us to get the full team - services and communities - behind the job. We have every belief that it can make a huge difference.
Where have we piloted SPOTLIGHT?
Four SPOTLIGHT trials have taken place, each over an intensive six week period -
Charlestown and Lower Kersal
Issue: Young people not in education, employment or training
Ordsall and Langworthy
Issue: Safe, clean and green
East Salford
Issue: Worklessness
Little Hulton
Issue: Lone parents
Winton and Eccles
Issue: Young people and alcohol
Cadishead
Issue: Healthy weight and primary school children
What happens after the SPOTLIGHT?
Plans have been put in place to take forward the actions that each SPOTLIGHT identifies. Read more about what will happen after the initial six week SPOTLIGHT.
Keeping you informed
We need your energy, support, ideas and constructive comments as we roll the process out. You may be asked to get involved in one of the trials or a later SPOTLIGHT as we develop and roll out the process - either way you can be sure you will be part of the SPOTLIGHT story!
It is essential that we keep everyone involved as the pilots progress - and they are progressing very quickly - so please return to this page for the latest news.

Engagement support materials
Asking about the opinions and experiences of all stakeholders is an essential part of the SPOTLIGHT process to help us get 'under the skin' of particular issues. We need to ensure that we do this consultation and research in a way that is respectful and considers the wider ethical impact of consultation upon different stakeholder groups.
We have put together some brief points that should be considered when consulting communities, front line staff and partners, an information sheet template that should be slightly amended for each project and given to participants, and a consent form.
You may also wish to give participants a copy of the Spotlight newsletter. Please contact by e-mail Susan Ford or on 0161 603 6800 for copies.
