Neighbourhood Renewal
The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) is a special fund for England's most deprived areas, to enable them to improve services, and narrow the gap between their communities and the rest of England.
As one of these deprived areas, Salford is in receipt of £9.308 million this year (2007-08).
In 2008, NRF will be replaced by the Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF) which will reduce deprivation by tackling worklessness. Read the government's WNF information.
Salford's neighbourhood renewal strategy
Partners IN Salford worked with Salford City Council to develop a neighbourhood renewal strategy identifying deprived neighbourhoods and targeted action agreed to improve them. NRF is used to support a range of projects and activities that will lead to the achievement of the targets in the strategy.
For example, some of the projects currently funded include:
- Salford Construction Partnership, which aims to make sure that Salford people can fill the construction roles created by the city's regeneration
- Advanced skills teachers
- Early years centres
- Delivering the obesity and tobacco control strategies
- Tackling anti-social behaviour and violent crime
