Safer, Stronger Communities Fund
The Safer and Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF) was introduced for all local authorities in England in April 2005.
The Fund brings together Department for Communities and Local Government and Home Office funding streams aimed at tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and drugs, empowering communities, and improving the condition of streets and public spaces; in particular for disadvantaged neighbourhoods where these issues often require more attention. In Salford these neighbourhoods are in Winton and Little Hulton.
During 2006-07, 54 separate projects were funded in the city, and overall have made a significant impact. Particularly successful projects include:
- community rugby league development
- small projects support fund
- measures to combat off-road biking
- designing out crime and the fear of crime
- targeted policing initiatives
Many lessons were learnt from SSCF: Read the dos and don'ts from the SSCF programme
