Improving health
For some time, Salford residents have had a low life expectancy compared to the rest of the country, and have been more likely to suffer poor health. The main causes of premature death in Salford are coronary heart disease, circulatory disease and cancer.
In order to combat this, we all need to focus on the major causes of poor health. There is a significant number of people in Salford who experience worklessness, poor income and low educational attainment, which often contribute to health conditions.
Improvements in housing, education and economic prosperity will have a positive impact on health, as will greener, safer and healthier environments.
Through the Agreement, we will introduce interventions that focus on the wider determinants of health, and target those most vulnerable to poor health.
