Improving community safety
Considerable progress has been made in reducing crime and disorder through partnership working. Since 2003, total crime has reduced by 14.7% with excellent reductions against key priorities, such as house burglary, car crime, youth disorder and violent crime.
Despite this, crime and the fear of crime still remains a particular issue for people in Salford.
We need to build on our achievements and continue to produce significant, sustainable outcomes and improve perception of safety in the city.
The main community safety issues for the city are:
- Reducing anti-social behaviour
- Tackling hate crime and domestic violence
- Tackling alcohol related crime and disorder
- Tackling the harm caused by drug misuse
- Reducing offending by those that cause the most harm, or are at risk of offending and reducing re-offending
- Supporting victims of crime and reducing the risk of people becoming victims of crime
- Reducing overall levels of crime by promoting secure design
