MediaCityUK and other developments will bring massive opportunities and new prosperity to the city. We need to make the most of these chances, and ensure that everyone in the city feels that they benefit and their lives improve. The conference was attended by over 50 people from all walks of life, chosen for their experience and knowledge, to think creatively about the answers together.

Salford's Future Search took place over three days:
- Monday 21 July: 4pm - 9pm
- Tuesday 22 July:8.30am - 6pm
- Wednesday 23 July:9am - 3pm

What is Future Search?

Future Search is the name of a particular way of running a conference. It was devised by Sandra Janoff and Marvin Weisbord and has been used successfully all over the world. Sandra helped to facilitate and deliver our Future Search event.
The aim of Future Search is to bring together people from all walks of life to find ways of solving a difficult problem. Nothing like this had ever been done in the city.
An important part of Future Search is that it happens over three days. Participants benefit from having time away from the conference to go home, let everything sink in and refresh themselves for the next session.
Why Future Search?
We chose Future Search because this method allows us to hear what a wide variety of people think and feel. By the end of the Future Search, we agreed a plan for how to connect people with opportunities.... no mean feat after three days!

Draft Action Plans from Salford's Future Search Conference
These plans are in their 'raw' state they have simply been typed up from the conference flip charts. Many of these 'actions' are currently broad statements of intent (which are clearly valuable in their own right) but need to be worked upon to develop SMART (Specific, Measureable, Agreeed, Realistic, Time-based) actions on the ground. This work will be led by champions together with those who agreed to assist in the post Future Search follow-up work.
