NHS Salford will work with its partners to improve the health, well being and social care of the people of Salford, commissioning a movement of resources from hospitals to communities and preventative services

The PCT is responsible for achieving a range of local and national targets. Key national targets include:

- Reducing deaths, especially from coronary heart disease and cancer
- Improving access to primary care
- Improving access to hospital care
- Improving mental health services and access
- Reducing MRSA and other healthcare acquired infections
- Improving patient choice
