Emotional Health and Wellbeing - Resources

We are committed to improving children and young people's mental and emotional health and wellbeing in Salford. We know that issues such as anxiety, low mood, depression, conduct and eating disorders, and family breakdown, separation and loss can impact significantly on their happiness and future life chances. This is an important element of our Emotional Health and Wellbeing Partnership work, 0-25 integration work and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Transformation Plan.

This page has been developed to help you access useful information about different types of resources that are available to support children and young people's emotional health and wellbeing and to provide guidance with making a referral into appropriate services when targeted/specialist help is needed.

We aim to keep the resource section regularly updated to ensure that anyone who works or volunteers with children and young people have access to up to date and relevant information.

The Young Minds website has specific pages for professionals who work or volunteers with children and young people. The site has information covering mental health and behaviour concerns, symptoms, possible causes and what you can do to help. There is also a range of booklets and leaflets that can be downloaded for free.

The following resources have been developed to support emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people, the latest versions are now available in the downloadable documents at the bottom of the page.

Useful websites: information and links to websites specifically for children and young people covering a range of issues, such as bullying, self-harm, anxiety.

Online resources: an overview of what resources are available to support your work with children and young people, the information includes fact sheets, lesson plans and guides. Please note: most of the resources are free to access, however some have a cost attached.

Online training: MindEd offers free, completely open access, online education in over 300 topics. The e-learning is applicable to a wide range of learners across the health, social care, education, criminal justice and community settings.

Measuring and monitoring children and young people's wellbeing: a toolkit for schools and colleges

Public Health England and the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families are committed to improving health outcomes for children, young people and their families, and have developed a toolkit for schools and colleges.

With half of all diagnosable mental health disorders established by the age of 14, there is a strong case to promote children and young people's mental health. The evidence tells us that the learning environment plays an important and valued role in helping protect and promote student mental wellbeing.

The toolkit aims to raise awareness amongst school and college staff of the range of validated tools that are available to help measure subjective mental wellbeing amongst the student population.

ADHD: School Strategies Good Practice Guide

This guide has been co-produced by both mainstream primary and secondary school SENCo's, in addition to specialist teachers from the Primary Inclusion Team (PIT), Secondary Inclusion Team (SIS), Speech and Language Therapist and Educational Psychologist.

While this guide is set into primary and secondary strategies, there will be cross over between strategies which can be used in both settings, taking into consideration the developmental age of the child or young person you are supporting. While this is a guidance document, it is not an exhaustive list and there may be many other strategies which you currently use in your school.

The Schools Counselling Approved Provider Register has been developed to support Salford's schools, academies, colleges and relevant local authority services, to source and commission quality and effective counselling provision for their children and young people aged 0-25. There are 9 Approved Providers on the register offering a wide range of different counselling provision for both primary and secondary schools and further / alternative education.

Each Approved Provider has been rigorously assessed to determine their suitability to deliver quality counselling for young people and their families in Salford. All providers have had to demonstrate their experience and compliance with relevant standards, including professional qualifications and accreditation, supervision arrangements, policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, links with other key local services and general delivery.
